WASHINGTON – Loyola University Chicago women's basketball freshman Alex-Anne Bessette was named Atlantic 10 Co–Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday, following her standout performances in Ramblers' wins over Dayton and Saint Louis.
Bessette averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during the two-game week, helping Loyola Chicago earn back-to-back conference victories. She shot 47.8 percent from the field, connected on four 3-pointers, and went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
The freshman from Québec City, Québec, Canada, scored 12 points in Loyola's 71-68 road win at Dayton, contributing as one of four Ramblers in double figures. She followed that effort with a game-high 20 points against Saint Louis at Gentile Arena, marking her second career 20-point game. Bessette added a career-high six rebounds in the win over the Billikens and hit a crucial game-tying three-pointer during Loyola's fourth-quarter rally.
Bessette's Co–Rookie of the Week honor marks Loyola's first A-10 weekly plaudit of the season.
