Kinas Posts First Double-Double in Home Loss to Rhode Island

Vaughn, Mobley also score in double figures for Ramblers

CHICAGO — Alexa Kinas recorded a double-double and Brooklyn Vaughn and Alexus Mobley each scored in double figures, but Loyola Chicago fell to Rhode Island, 70-58, on Saturday night at Gentile Arena.

"You can't turn the ball over 15 times and give a team like Rhode Island 20 points off those mistakes and expect to win," Loyola Chicago Head Coach Allison Guth said. "I liked how we defended and limited their top scorers, but getting out-rebounded and not converting late hurt us. Against a team of that caliber, we have to value possessions and make plays down the stretch."

Vaughn led the Ramblers (4-10, 0-3) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Mobley added 16 points and three steals, while Kinas finished with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Loyola Chicago held Rhode Island to 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 29.4 percent from 3-point range, but the Rams went 17-for-21 from the free-throw line and scored 20 points off turnovers.

How It Happened
Loyola Chicago opened the game on a 5-0 run, capped by a basket from Vaughn, before Rhode Island responded to take a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Rams extended their lead to six early in the second quarter, but the Ramblers answered with a 6-0 run, highlighted by a Kinas bucket, to tie the game at 18. Rhode Island regained momentum and carried a 30-25 advantage into halftime.

Rhode Island pushed its lead to seven early in the third quarter before Loyola Chicago again responded with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to one at 34-33 with 6:07 remaining. The Rams closed the quarter strong and took a 47-40 lead into the fourth.

Loyola Chicago could not close the gap in the final period as Rhode Island built its largest lead of the night at 12 points in the closing minute. The Ramblers finished with 36 points in the paint but were unable to overcome Rhode Island's advantage at the free-throw line.
