CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago fell to the visiting Duquesne Duke Saturday afternoon, 71-59.
Xavier Amos led the Ramblers with 12 points.
Loyola falls to 5-16 overall and 1-7 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
The Dukes built an early 8-3 lead over the Ramblers, but Loyola put up five unanswered points to battle back and tie it on a second chance layup from
Joshua Ola-Joseph. He'd have another second-chance opportunity to give the Ramblers their first lead of the half at the 13:17 mark, 10-9.
Duquesne would keep the lead until Loyola used a 7-0 run to get ahead again.
Miles Rubin and
Alexander Richardson took the ball inside for three-point Loyola leads twice by the 4:42 mark. The Dukes responded with an 11-0 run, including six at the line, to go back up by eight with just over two to play.
Daniil Glazkov had a late three, but the Ramblers trailed at the break, 34-28.
Loyola and Duquesne traded runs to start the second half of action.
Nic Anderson sparked a 6-0 stretch for the Ramblers as they battled back to tie it 34-34. The Dukes used five straight to stop the progress, but Amos hit a three to keep Loyola within two. Duquesne pushed the lead up to eight with six unanswered by the 14:19 mark. Several Ramblers chipped in to make it a one possession game near the midway point, including Amos at the line to get within two, 49-47.
Despite fighting back in the first 10 minutes, the Ramblers couldn't get closer than two. Duquesne strung together another 7-0 run to go back up by nine and a with 8:04 on the clock. Tarence Guinyard went on to drain back-to-back threes two minutes later for the first double-digit lead of the game. The Dukes led by as much as 15 down the stretch and won, 71-59.
