WASHINGTON - Loyola Chicago women's basketball player Alex-Anne Bessette was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday, after helping lead the Ramblers to a pair of league victories.
Bessette averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as Loyola Chicago went 2-0 with wins over La Salle and Saint Louis. She opened the week with 18 points and three assists in a 64-60 comeback victory against La Salle, scoring key baskets during a decisive fourth-quarter run.
Bessette then followed with a career-high 23 points and a career-best eight rebounds in a 74-59 road win at Saint Louis, leading all scorers while the Ramblers held the Billikens to 9.1 percent shooting from 3-point range.
The rookie played a central role in Loyola Chicago's defensive success during the week, as the Ramblers forced 43 total turnovers and outscored their opponents by 17 points in fourth quarters across the two games.
This marks Bessette's second Atlantic 10 weekly honor of the season.
