CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago Athletics mourns the passing of former men's basketball player and Hall of Fame member, Javan Goodman. Goodman was in the class of 1999 and later inducted into the Loyola Hall of Fame in 2022.
"We're saddened to hear of the passing of former Rambler Javan Goodman," said Athletic Director Steve Watson. "Javan was an exceptional player whose impact on Loyola Basketball continues to be felt today. We were fortunate to recognize and celebrate his achievements at our Hall of Fame celebration a few years ago. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former teammates."
Goodman was a two-time First Team All-MCC selection and graduated ranked in the program's all-time top ten in both scoring (1,564) and rebounding (908). During his four-year career, the 6-foot-8 power forward put up 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per outing, sinking 47.4 percent (614-for-1,303) of his field goal attempts, saving his best for last, when he tallied 18.5 ppg and 8.8 rpg as a senior in 1998-99.
The Nassau, Bahamas native recorded a double-double in six consecutive contests during the 1998-99 campaign, scoring 20 or more points on 10 occasions that season, including a career-best 31-point performance against Butler.
Following his career at Loyola, Goodman played professionally in Belgium, Spain, Finland, and Argentina before returning home to The Bahamas. He served on the Gaming Board for The Bahamas for 22 years before his passing.
