CHICAGO – The Loyola University Chicago men's and women's track teams are gearing up for a busy weekend as they split squads between the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston and the Blue Demon Alumni Classic on Chicago's South Side.
The Blue Demon Alumni Classic will take place Friday, Feb. 13, at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park. Loyola is slated to compete in the men's and women's 3,000 meters, mile and 800 meters.
The mile is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., followed by the 800 meters at 5:25 p.m., with the 3,000 meters closing the day at 6:45 p.m.
At the Valentine Invitational, held inside the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, the Rambler men will race in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, while the women will compete in the mile, 3,000 and 5,000 meters.
Loyola's men's team is ranked No. 11Â in the 5,000 meters and No. 24Â in the 3,000 meters in the USTFCCCA Event Squad rankings.
Loyola enters the weekend coming off a strong showing at the Meyo Invitational and the Chicago Collegiate Invitational. At Notre Dame, Cael Mulholland won the men's open 3,000 meters, and Roisin Treacy posted the second‑fastest women's 3,000 meters time in program history. Treacy tallied Atlantic 10 Women's Track Co-Performer of the Week honors for her efforts.Â
At the Chicago Collegiate Invitational, Natalya Kuchenbuch led the team with a second‑place finish in the women's 800 meters as Loyola added several additional top‑10 placements between both squads.
