PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Despite forcing 27 turnovers and winning the turnover battle, the Loyola Chicago women's basketball team fell 67-55 to Duquesne on the road Wednesday.
"We didn't execute from the start and had a tough first half," said Loyola Chicago Head Coach Allison Guth. "You have to give Duquesne a lot of credit. They have two players we were really focused on and trying to run off the line, but we didn't execute our scout with enough intention."
The Ramblers (12-12, 8-5 Atlantic 10) placed three players in double figures, led by Alex-Anne Bessette's 14 points to go along with three steals and three blocks. Alexus Mobley added 12 points and three steals, while Alexa Kinas finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Loyola Chicago found success on the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive rebounds that led to nine second-chance points. Kinas paced the effort with five offensive boards.
The Ramblers also disrupted Duquesne's offense throughout the contest, totaling five blocks as a team. Bessette led the defensive effort with three rejections.
How it Happened
Loyola Chicago trailed 15-9 at the end of the first quarter after a slow start offensively.
The Dukes extended their advantage in the second quarter, sending the Ramblers into halftime facing a 42-24 deficit.
Duquesne pushed its lead to 45-26 early in the third quarter before Loyola Chicago responded with an 8-0 run, capped by a Bessette basket, to cut the margin to 45-34 with 4:35 remaining in the period. The Dukes answered and held a 52-36 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Duquesne stretched its lead to 65-46 in the final quarter before Loyola Chicago used a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to 65-53 with 53 seconds remaining. The Ramblers were unable to get closer down the stretch as Duquesne secured the 67-55 win.
