LEESBURG, Fla. -- Loyola Chicago swept its weekend at THE Spring Games, defeating Alabama State 7-4 on Sunday, Feb. 15. The Ramblers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantag.
Offensively, the Ramblers were led by senior Adelina Staden, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBIs. Junior Nat Lesnicki compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Senior Abbie Gregus also helped out Loyola, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
How It Happened
The Ramblers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Staden had an RBI single, scoring freshman Megan Piotrowski from second base. Loyola then held the Hornets scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning, bringing the score to 4-0.
Alabama State krept in on Loyola's lead, but the Ramblers stretched their advantage to 5-1 in the fourth inning. Lesnicki ripped an RBI triple to score Gregus from first. The Ramblers held the Hornets without a run before the offense got things rolling the next inning. Sophomore Averi Vander Woude crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning, bringing the score to 6-1.
Loyola kept Alabama State off the board and built lead to 7-1 the following inning. Staden came across to score. Alabama State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Ramblers held on for the 7-4 win.
