PHILADELPHIA – Loyola Chicago and Saint Joseph's met Saturday in Hagan Arena with the Hawks sweeping the regular season series, 75-61.
Deywilk Tavarez and
Kayde Dotson led the Ramblers with 14 points each.
Loyola falls to 6-22 overall and 2-13 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
Saint Joseph's struck first within the first minute and a half and built their lead to 8-2 with back-to-back threes by the first media timeout. Loyola was 0-9 from the field before
Nic Anderson got on the board with 13:50 to play. The Hawks took their largest lead yet on a three midway through to go up 17-6.
Loyola used a 6-0 run into the 3:02 media timeout.
Miles Rubin had a dunk, while
Xavier Amos capped the stretch with a steal to fast break open look to get the lead under 10. SJU responded with seven unanswered points and took a 35-20 lead at the break.
Dotson opened the second with a three, while he and Tavarez went for back-to-back threes less than two minutes later to force and early SJU timeout. Out of the 15:29 media timeout, the Ramblers went on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to single-digits. Tavarez drained a three to cut it to nine. Anderson, Dotson, and Rubin later helped cut it down to four.
The Hawks had an answer, using a 9-2 run to go back up by double-figures. Tavarez and Dotson hit threes to keep it within eight under the five-minute mark. It was the closest Loyola would get in the final minutes, and SJU won, 75-61.
