RALEIGH, N.C. -- Loyola Chicago battled to two losses on the second day of the Wolfpack Classic, first falling 2-1 in a rematch against Lehigh before an 8-2 loss to NC State.
From inside the circle, junior Brooke Steinhorst (1-3) started and took the loss for the Ramblers against the Mountain Hawks, and junior Maddy Hickey (1-2) had the loss against the Wolfpack.
Game One: Loyola 1, Lehigh 2
Trailing 1-0, the Ramblers first put runs on the board late in the seventh inning thanks to sophomore Averi Vander's RBI double. The Mountain Hawks scored one more time to break the tie and avoid extra innings.
Steinhorst went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits. Offensively, Vander Woude paced Loyola, and junior Nat Lesnicki also 1-for-3 with a double at the dish.
Game Two: Loyola 2, NC State 8
The Ramblers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning as sophomore Alli Pawlowicz homered and plated sophomore Addyson Borg. Loyola was unable to hold the lead, as NC State scored eight times over the remaining five innings.
Offensively, the Ramblers were led by the sophomore pair who both went 1-for-3.
