Loyola Chicago Drops Hard Fought Matchup with Miami (OH) in Extra Innings

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Loyola Chicago fell 9-8 in an eight-inning matchup to Miami Ohio on Sunday, Feb. 8 at the SDSU Season Kickoff. Freshman pitcher Katie Geydoshek came out of the bullpen for Loyola and took the loss.

Coach Quote: Alicia Abbott
"I'm proud of how we competed today. It was a full team effort filled with some great pitching, the long ball, speed on the bases, and defense to back it up. The mindset the whole game was to get ahead, play to win, and respond fast. We're headed back home ready to work this week to get back on the field in Florida."

How It Happened
The Ramblers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning, and picked up three runs in the frame. Loyola lost the lead in the second, but got back on the board in the third trailing 5-3. Junior Liz Sedakis came across to score the Ramblers' lone run of the inning, which trimmed the RedHawks' lead to 5-4.

Miami (OH) increased their lead to 7-4 before Loyola's offense got back in action, closing the deficit to 7-6 in the fourth frame. The Ramblers held the RedHawks off the board before tying it up in the sixth. Sophomore Alli Pawlowicz scored to tie the score at 7-7. That tie turned into an 8-7 Ramblers lead in extra innings as Pawlowicz came across home plate again. Loyola was unable to hold the lead, as Miami (OH) scored two times in the bottom half of the eighth to grab the 9-8 win.
