WASHINGTON – Following standout debut indoor track campaigns, Loyola University Chicago student-athletes Eugene Niox-Chateau and Maggie Powers have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Rookie Team in their respective events, the league office announced Wednesday.
Niox-Chateau earned All-Rookie recognition in the 3,000m after a strong first season in Maroon and Gold. He capped his debut at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships (Feb. 27-28) with an eighth-place finish in 8:25.34.
The freshman consistently lowered his time throughout the indoor campaign, highlighted by a personal-best 8:08.25 at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 13-14), where he finished sixth in his heat. Earlier in the season, Niox-Chateau placed fourth at the Meyo Invitational (Jan. 30-31) in 8:13.16 and opened his collegiate career with a fourth-place showing (8:18.02) at the Cougar Alumni Open (Dec. 5).
On the women's side, Powers garnered All-Rookie honors in the mile after an impressive indoor season. She clocked 4:59.88 at the Atlantic 10 Championships to place ninth overall, narrowly missing the scoring positions in a competitive field.
Powers recorded a personal-best 4:52.40 at the Meyo Invitational, finishing 12th in a deep field. She also posted a 4:56.62 effort at the Notre Dame Invitational (Jan. 24), taking 14th place.
