FAIRFAX, Va. -- Loyola Chicago and George Mason traded wins in the doubleheader as the Patriots downed the Ramblers 10-4 in game one before the Maroon and Gold rallied back to take game two, 3-1, on Saturday, April 25.
Rookie pitcher Anna Kiel (10-5) got the win for Loyola, going 6.2 innings, giving up one run on seven hits and striking out a career-high six batters. Junior utility Maddy Hickey (4-3) came out of the bullpen and took the loss for the Ramblers in the opener.
Redshirt junior catcher Abbie Gregus went 1-for-3 at the plate and led Loyola with a home run and two RBIs in game one, while junior infielder Nat Lesnicki boosted the Ramblers to victory in game two, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Game One | George Mason 10, Loyola Chicago 4
Trailing 3-0, the Ramblers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning, plating two runs when Gregus left the yard with Kiel aboard. Loyola held George Mason scoreless before tying it up in the fifth as sophomore outfielder Averi Vander Woude pushed one run across with an RBI double. The Patriots broke a 3-3 tie and grabbed a 9-3 lead heading into the sixth. Loyola narrowed the gap with one more run but ultimately fell short, 10-4.
Game Two | Loyola Chicago 3, George Mason 1
Loyola took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning and never surrendered it on the way to victory. Sedakis drove in Vander Woude and Lesnicki on a single then freshman infielder Kayci Rigby scored the final run for the Ramblers, who held the Patriots scoreless until the fourth inning. Loyola held on for the 3-1 win.
