MERION STATION, Pa. -- Loyola Chicago had a marathon day, taking both games of the doubleheader against Saint Joseph's on Friday, April 3, and doing so in 18 total innings. Junior Maddy Hickey (3-2) secured the first victory out of the bullpen the Ramblers, 7-5. Loyola earned game two 4-2 after 11 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Anna Kiel (6-4) got the win for the Ramblers, pitching eight shutout innings, giving up no walks and striking out three.
Game One | Loyola Chicago 7, Saint Joseph's 5
The Ramblers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the opening inning thanks to junior Nat Lesnicki's RBI double to score sophomore Averi Vander Woude. The Hawks took the lead over in the fifth frame before the Ramblers evened it out at 4-4. Loyola scored two more as redshirt sophomore Liz Sedakis hit a single and scored Vander Woude again.
Saint Joseph's broke the tie to regain the lead heading into the seventh inning. The Ramblers had a three-run frame boosted by a two-run homer from Sedakis and held on for the 7-5 win.
Game Two | Loyola Chicago 4, Saint Joseph's 2
Loyola was trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board as Sedakis hit an RBI single to score Lesnicki from second base. The Ramblers kept the Hawks off the board before tying it up late in the game in the sixth. Loyola turned the 2-2 tie into a 4-2 victory after eleven innings of play.
