Softball on the Road at Wisconsin and Rhode Island

LEADING OFF 
Loyola Chicago hits the road this week for four games, starting with a midweek matchup at Wisconsin before traveling to Rhode Island for the Ramblers' fifth Atlantic 10 series of the season.

QUICK HITS
  • Loyola clinched its third A-10 series of the season with a sweep at Saint Joseph's last weekend. The Ramblers outlasted the Hawks in all three meetings, including an 11-inning game in the doubleheader. 
  • Rookie pitcher Anna Kiel (7-4) went 2-0 in the weekend, pitching eight shutout innings, giving up no walks and striking out three in game two of the doubleheader before going 5.2 innings and striking out four batters in the series closer.
  • Redshirt sophomore Liz Sedakis led the Ramblers at the plate with a .455 batting average, five hits and five RBIs. She struck out zero times and recorded her second home run of the season.   
  • Sedakis, junior Nat Lesnicki and Kiel lead the Ramblers' offense with 21, 19 and 14 RBIs, respectively.     
  • Lesnicki paces Loyola with a .383 batting average, good for third in the league. She also ranks fourth in the A-10 in hits (41), seventh in doubles (9) and ninth in OPS (.979).
  • Kiel leads Loyola's bullpen with a 3.55 ERA and freshman pitcher Katie Geydoshek ranks eighth in the A-10 with 48 strikeouts.   
  • Redshirt junior infielder Abbie Gregus leads the league with 11 runs caught stealing, placing her 12th in the country.   
  • The Ramblers were picked to finish sixth in the A-10 Preseason Poll, receiving 38 points.     
  • Loyola returned 13 letterwinners and welcomed eight newcomers, including six true freshmen and two transfer students.       
  • Abbott entered her seventh season at the helm of the program, sporting a 134-167 career record.      

SCOUTING REPORT 
The Badgers are 21-12 overall and 7-5 in Big Ten play so far this season. Wisconsin was on a six-game winning streak before Purdue snapped it in their series closer. Junior infielder Hilary Blomberg leads the Badgers at the plate with a .408 batting average, 42 hits, 40 RBIs and 12 home runs. Senior pitcher Shelby Jacobson (9-4) is the bullpen leader behind a 3.63 ERA and 59 strikeouts through 81.0 innings pitched.  

Rhode Island is 9-17 overall on the year and 4-8 in A-10 action. In conference contests, the Rams were swept by the Saint Joseph's Hawks and took one game in the series against St. Bonaventure. Rhode Island clinched the series at Saint Louis in two extra-inning games before securing one win against Dayton. Senior outfielder Hannah Hernandez leads the Rams with 22 hits and is tied for first on the team with 11 runs. Her senior counterpart Kylie Bulinski has the team-high 13 RBI. From inside the circle, senior pitcher Ashley Hibbard has the team-best 2.76 ERA and 34 strikeouts while sophomore Brooke Gerry and junior Avery Vale-Cruz each have 45 Ks.  

SERIES HISTORY 
Wisconsin leads the all-time series 23-2-1 with Loyola. The last time the two teams met was in 2012 on the Ramblers' turf, and the Badgers walked away with both wins from the doubleheader.  

Loyola holds the series advantage 9-1 with Rhode Island, meeting for the first time ever in 2023 and most recently last season at Loyola Softball Park. The Ramblers swept the Rams in 2025, totaling 18 runs in the series and limiting Rhode Island to just three.
