MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Loyola Chicago women's soccer closed this week's action at Marquette Sunday afternoon. The Ramblers scored first in a 1-1 draw with the Golden Eagles.
With the tie, Loyola sits at 3-2-3 overall and extended its unbeaten streak to five games.
"The team battled hard today. It was unfortunate to give up such a quick equalizer after scoring," said head coach
Jon Sandoval. "These are important moments that we need to learn from heading into conference play. We have to show more competitive maturity in big moments. All in all though, we are really proud of the effort today."
How It Happened
A scoreless first half wasn't without effort as the teams combined for eight shots. The Ramblers took five, including an early attempt off the post by
Olivia Beam in the 13
th minute. Two of Marquette's three attempts were on goal and saved by
Allison Deardorff.
Deardorff had another save not even two minutes into the second half, while
Zoe Hevey finally put one on goal for the Ramblers in the 52rd minute. It wasn't until the 67
th minute that Loyola broke through the Marquette defense.
Riga Kallaba scored her first career goal on an assist from
Emily Rossi to put Loyola up, 1-0. Exactly a minute later, Kiley McMinn netted the equalizer for the Golden Eagles.
Hevey put the Ramblers on her back to try to snag the win after the tying goal. She took five more shots, including one on goal saved in the 85
th minute. The match would end tied, 1-1.
