WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Loyola Chicago's
Leyna Nguyen was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week, per the league's announcement on Monday afternoon.
The sophomore outside hitter led the Ramblers' offense in three straight victories at their home tournament last weekend. It marks Nguyen's second conference weekly award of her career and first for the Ramblers this fall.
Out of San Jose, Calif., Nguyen racked up 63 total kills on .373 hitting at the Loyola Invitational. She recorded a career-high 27 kills while hitting .447 in the five-set win over Bradley (Sept. 11) after capturing 23 the previous night against Southeast Missouri State (Sept. 10). In addition to her offensive prowess, Nguyen had 19 digs and three total blocks in the weekend. At the service line, she had four aces and only two errors in 48 attempts.
Loyola stays local for the Chicago Cup this week, hosting UIC on Thursday, Sept. 17 before facing DePaul on Friday, Sept. 18.
