Patrick Wallace was named assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago on April 20, 2021 after spending the previous two seasons as the Ramblers’ video coordinator. During his three seasons with the Loyola program, he has helped the Ramblers to two NCAA Tournament appearances, two Missouri Valley Conference Championship crowns and three seasons of 20 or more wins.
Â
Prior to his arrival in Rogers Park, Wallace spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons as a graduate manager on Chris Collins’ staff at Northwestern University. As a graduate manager at Northwestern, he was responsible for game and scouting preparation, oversaw undergraduate managers and assisted in player development.
Â
“Patrick has done so much behind the scenes work for our program the past two seasons and he is absolutely prepared to make this jump to be an assistant coach,” Loyola head coach Drew Valentine said. “He is an extraordinarily hard working and dedicated individual who has one of the brightest basketball minds that I’ve been around. Patrick has earned the trust and respect of all of our players and will help us keep continuity with our culture. I’m excited to continue working with him.”
Â
During his first season as an assistant coach on Drew Valentine’s staff at Loyola, Wallace was heavily involved with the team’s offense and the Ramblers thrived, ranking as one of the top field goal and three-point shooting teams in the country, while setting a single-season program record with 293 three-point field goals. Loyola reached the NCAA Tournament once again, marking the first time in nearly 60 seasons that the Ramblers went dancing in back-to-back campaigns. Five Ramblers earned postseason honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, including Lucas Williamson, who was tabbed First Team All-MVC and MVC Defensive Player of the Year and as a team, Loyola posted 25 wins and captured a second straight MVC Championship title.
Â
Loyola experienced another wildly successful season in 2020-21, finishing the year ranked No. 12 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches Top 25 Poll, after going 26-5 overall and posting a school-record 16 wins in conference play. Led by MVC Player of the Year and Associated Press Third Team All-America center Cameron Krutwig, the Ramblers won their third MVC regular-season title in four years and made their third postseason appearance in that stretch, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in four seasons.
Â
During the 2019-20 campaign, Wallace helped the Ramblers to a 21-win season and a second-place finish in the rugged Missouri Valley Conference as Loyola recorded its third straight campaign with 20 or more victories. Krutwig was named First Team All-MVC, and freshman Marquise Kennedy was tabbed MVC Sixth Man of the Year, among a handful of honors handed out to Ramblers at season’s end.Â
Â
Wallace played collegiately at North Carolina State and Charleston Southern and was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams. He finished his career at Charleston Southern ranked 15th in program history with 117 three-point field goals, despite playing just two seasons there. Wallace was a two-time Big South All-Academic and National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court member in both of his seasons at Charleston Southern.
Â
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Wallace played his prep basketball at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. He earned his undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern and his master’s degree in sports administration from Northwestern.
