Alex Hurlburt is in his first season as a volunteer assistant men’s volleyball coach at Loyola University Chicago. Hurlburt arrives in Rogers Park after helping the Glenbard West High School boys’ team to the 2017 IHSA title as an assistant coach.
“I’ve had the opportunity to watch Alex on the sidelines and work with him as part of USA Volleyball and he has a tremendous understanding of the game and possesses an uncanny ability to communicate with the players on the court,” Loyola head coach Mark Hulse said. “We are excited to get him into the gym right away as we prepare for what could be another special season.”
In addition to serving as an assistant coach at Glenbard West, Hulburt has most recently been the associate head coach for the Future Select National Skills Program in Vernon Hills. A coaching veteran, he also spent three seasons as the boys’ varsity head coach at Plainfield Central High School and was the head coach of the Hitmen Volleyball Club.
Hurlburt guided his Hitmen Volleyball Club squad to a fifth-place finish in the 18 Open division of the Boys Junior National Championships in 2017 and has piloted that squad to a berth in the USAV National 18 Open division in each of the last three years.
