Galen Dodd, who has experience as a collegiate coach at USC, UCLA and Lewis, was hired as an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago on June 15, 2021. Dodd spent the 2021 season as a volunteer assistant with the Ramblers.
“Galen has worked hard with us throughout this past season and we are very excited to have his knowledge of the game and work ethic on board full time,” Loyola head coach Hulse said.
During the 2021 campaign, Dodd helped coach the Ramblers to a final ranking of No. 10 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II Poll and a 15-6 overall record, which included three wins over nationally ranked opponents. Three Ramblers captured First Team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) recognition, and Cole Schlothauer and Garrett Zolg secured AVCA Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
Before his arrival in Rogers Park, Dodd spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Lewis, as the Flyers finished both the 2019 and 2020 seasons ranked in the top five in the AVCA Division I-II Poll. In 2019, he helped the Flyers reach the NCAA Final Four, and during his two-year stint, he aided in the development of a pair of MIVA Player of the Year award winners.
Dodd spent two seasons on the staff at UCLA as a student assistant coach, and in 2018, was part of a Bruins program that finished runner-up in the NCAA Tournament, and he also spent one year as a volunteer assistant coach at USC.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Dodd has also assisted at the international and club/junior levels, including serving as a coach and technical coordinator for USA Volleyball and High Performance as well as head coach for the MOD Volleyball Club.
Dodd earned his undergraduate degree from UCLA and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Lewis.
