Simon Harris was named a women's basketball assistant coach in June 2023.
Harris is no stranger to the Atlantic 10 having gotten his first coaching opportunity at Dayton in 2011. While with the Flyers, Harris spent three seasons as a graduate assistant then director of player personnel with the men’s basketball team before he took an assistant coaching role with the women’s team from 2014-18.
In 2016, Harris tabbed three ESPN Top-100 commitments to the women’s team. He also helped the Flyers to 2014 Elite Eight (men) and 2015 Elite Eight (women) appearances. Harris led the charge on preparing scouting reports, assisting with game plans, and presenting strategy to the team for all opponents.
Most recently, Harris served as head women’s basketball coach at East Tennessee State for the 2021-22 season. The team turned five more wins than the season prior to his tenure, earning the team a spot in the Southern Conference Tournament.
Prior to ETSU, Harris held assistant coaching positions with Ohio State and North Carolina State. With the Buckeyes, Harris recruited two ESPN Top-100 commitments in the 2022 class, including the current Big 10 Freshman of the Year. He was also instrumental in the recruiting efforts at NC State helping the team land four ESPN Top-100 commitments in the 2019 class following the team’s Elite Eight appearance.
Harris played collegiately at Elon before transferring to NC State where capped his career as the team’s captain in 2008. Harris graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He went on to play one season professionally in Ireland.
