Evan Muys, who spent two seasons as the head coach at Jacksonville University, was named assistant women’s volleyball coach at Loyola University Chicago, on February 24, 2020. Muys also has experience serving as an assistant coach at both the University of Dayton and Marquette University.
“Evan has high-level coaching and recruiting experience, while being an integral part of three Atlantic 10 championships and three NCAA tournaments,” Loyola head coach Amanda Berkley said. “He is a key piece to our program.”
In his first season with the Ramblers, Muys helped steer the program through the challenges of COVID-19 in 2020-21, as Loyola posted an 11-9 overall record and made its first ever trip to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship title match. Loyola took down perennial Valley power, Northern Iowa, twice during the season, including in the MVC Championship semifinals, and Muys also played a role in the development of a pair of newcomers on Loyola’s young squad, as Emily Banitt and Grace Hinchman were selected to the MVC All-Freshman Team.
Muys, who graduated from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, served as the women’s volleyball and beach volleyball head coach at Jacksonville for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. While at Jacksonville, Muys’ team were lauded for their academic excellence both by the NCAA and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and on the court, he orchestrated a turnaround as the Dolphins doubled their win total in 2019.
Prior to his first collegiate head coaching position, Muys spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Dayton, where he helped the Flyers to three Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament championships, as well as three NCAA tournament berths and a pair of NCAA tournament victories. During his time at Dayton, he played an integral role in the development of a pair of AVCA All-America honorees and three Atlantic 10 Player of the Year selections.
Muys also spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Marquette and played a key role in the Golden Eagles’ 2013 Big East Conference regular season and tournament championships. At Marquette, he mentored three All-Americans and the team earned a final national ranking of No. 23 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
As a student-athlete on the men’s volleyball team at Saint Xavier, Muys was a two-time team captain and was also a two-time all-conference pick.
