Lauren Holbrook Named Horizon League Volleyball Player of the Week

Sophomore setter averaged 13.12 assists per game as Loyola wrapped up the Horizon League regular season title last weekend


Lauren Holbrook was named Horizon League Player of the Week after helping Loyola to two wins last weekend

Chicago, Ill. (November 18, 2002) -- Loyola University sophomore setter Lauren Holbrook (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) was named the Horizon League Volleyball Player of the Week the league office announced this afternoon. Holbrook becomes the second Loyola player to earn the weekly award this season, following Shari Davis who has won earned the accolades twice.

With the regular season title on the line, Holbrook averaged 13.13 assists, 2.62 digs and 1.25 kills per game as Loyola claimed the outright regular season title with road wins over UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee. Holbrook opened the weekend by dishing out 44 assists to go with eight digs and three blocks while guiding the Ramblers to a .292 team hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep over the Phoenix. She was even better on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, finishing with 13 digs, six kills and three blocks to go with 61 assists as Loyola rallied for a 3-2 win over the Panthers to wrap up its third consecutive regular season crown and second consecutive outright title.

Loyola (25-4, 13-1 Horizon) has closed the regular season strong and brings an 11-match winning streak into this weekend's Horizon League Championship. After a 3-3 start, the Ramblers have won 22 of their last 23 contests and they open postseason play on Friday evening, facing eighth-seeded Youngstown State in a Horizon League quarterfinal match at 5 p.m. CT in Green Bay, Wis.
