Senior setter dazzles as Ramblers sweep through Chicago Challenge

Lauren Holbrook was named Horizon League Player of the Week for the third time in her distinguished career after leading the Ramblers to three sweeps at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Challenge over the weekend

Chicago (September 13, 2004) - Loyola senior setter Lauren Holbrook (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named Horizon League Volleyball Player of the Week after three impressive performances earned her Most Valuable Player honors at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Challenge this weekend at the Gentile Center. It marks the first time Holbrook has received the honor this season and third time in her career that she has earned the distinction.

Holbrook was the catalyst behind a Rambler offense that hit its stride over the weekend, dishing out 122 assists (13.56 apg) and pounding out 23 kills (2.56 kpg) herself as Loyola swept city foes Northwestern, Illinois-Chicago and DePaul. She narrowly missed a triple-double in the opener against Northwestern, finishing with nine kills, seven digs and 35 assists as the Ramblers tripped the Wildcats for the second time in three years. She was just as good the following day against Illinois-Chicago, finishing with seven kills (7-0-10, .700), 10 digs and 36 assists, before closing out the weekend with seven kills, 11 digs and a season-high 51 assists as the Ramblers hit a season-best .376 as a team in the win over the Blue Demons. Holbrook is second on the school's all-time assists list with 4,215 helpers, just 183 behind Julie McShane (1990-92) for the top spot.

Loyola (4-3), winners of four consecutive matches, return to the court tomorrow when it hosts No. 9 Illinois. The Fighting Illini bring a 5-0 record into the match and are coming off an upset of No. 1 USC on Sunday.
