IUPUI Races Past Loyola, 6-3

9/5/2004

Two goals from Joe Nierzwicki not enough to overcome second half blitz

Joe Nierzwicki scored his first two goals of the season but Loyola still fell to IUPUI, 6-3

Bowling Green, Ohio (September 5, 2004) -- IUPUI forward Vangel Nacovski scored three of his four goals in an eight-minute span in the second half to lead the Jaguars to a 6-3 win over Loyola this afternoon at the Kelme Classic in Bowling Green, Ohio.

For the second consecutive match, Loyola got on the board early. Junior Joe Nierzwicki (Chicago, Ill.) converted off a feed from Bill Metzger (Wilmette, Ill.) in just the 8th minute to give the Ramblers the early lead. Nacovski equalized on 29 minutes with a free kick and the teams went into intermission tied, 1-1.

It took just over five minutes of the second half for the fireworks to begin. IUPUI took a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute on an own goal but Nierzwicki drew LU even just four minutes later, firing home his second goal of the match. Nacovski took over from there, scoring in the 70th, 75th and 78th minutes to lift IUPUI to a 5-2 advantage before Mark Eckerle (Downers Grove, Ill.) seemingly closed out the scoring with just 27 seconds left. However, IUPUI added another with just eight ticks left for the final margin.

Loyola returns to action this Friday (Sept. 10) when they take on Towson in the first of two matches the Denver Tournament in Denver, Colo.
