Box Score
Cleveland, Ohio - Cleveland State's Nikole Kennedy finished with a match-high 17 kills to lead the host Vikings to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 30-25) win over Loyola tonight at Woodling Gymnasium. Loyola, which falls to 1-6 on the road, stands at 5-13 overall (3-3 Horizon) while Cleveland State improves to 12-6 (4-2).
"We did not hit or pass the ball particularly well tonight," said head coach Marcie Bomhack. "We are gonna have to shake it off, work hard and get back and compete again tomorrow afternoon."
The Loyola offense struggled to find a rhythm early, hitting just .098 in the first two games as Cleveland State roared to a 2-0 lead at intermission. The Ramblers showed some signs in game three, outkilling CSU, 18-15, but nine errors in the frame (26 for the match) proved to be too much to overcome.
Keily Zins had a team-high 10 kills and added nine digs while the Ramblers received encouraging performances from two other underclassmen as Shelby Henriksen (six kills, .625 efficiency) and Mindy Rees (six kills, 26 assists, eight digs) had strong matches.
The Ramblers return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Youngstown State at 1 p.m.
