CHICAGO - Hilary Stromath had a match-high 19 kills in her final match at Alumni Gym but it was not enough as Cleveland State rallied from an 0-2 hole for the second consecutive day in a 3-2 (25-30, 28-30, 31-29, 30-28, 15-7) win over Loyola at Alumni Gym. The loss snaps the Ramblers' four-match winning streak and they end the regular season with a 10-17 (8-6 Horizon) record. The Vikings improve to 19-9 (11-3).
"I tip my hat to Cleveland State for a nice comeback," said head coach Marcie Bomhack. "Our serving towards the end of games three and four cost us dearly but I thought Hilary played a great match on her Senior Day. The biggest part of our season is still to come (Horizon League Championship) and I am happy with where we are at as a team heading into the postseason."
Efficiency was the name of the game for the Ramblers early, as they hit .296 through the first two games to take a 2-0 lead into intermission. Game three was tight throughout but four Rambler service errors after LU hit the 20-point mark spelled doom and five more service errors, including one at 27-28, contributed to the game four loss. Cleveland State carried the momentum over into game five, turning a 5-3 lead into a 10-3 lead and never looking back to earn its second five-game victory this weekend.
Courtney Ashley (15 kills, 12 digs), Shelby Henriksen (14 kills, .429 efficiency, six blocks), Keily Zins (11 kills, 13 digs) and Audrey Davis (10 kills) joined Stromath in double figures.
