Ramblers End September With Road Matches At UW-Green Bay and IPFW This Week: Loyola University Chicago women's soccer looks to finish the month of September on a winning note with two road matches this week. The Ramblers open their Horizon League slate at UW-Green Bay on Monday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. This is the second time over the past three seasons that LU has opened league play against the Phoenix. The Maroon and Gold then heads to IPFW for its second night match of the week on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
Scouting The Ramblers: After dropping its last three-matches, including a 2-0 loss to nationally ranked Marquette at home on Sept. 20, LU used overtime on Sept. 22 to snap its streak with a 3-2 victory at Illinois State. The match was the first time the Ramblers played extra minutes with junior forward Lindsay Faron scoring the `Golden Goal" in the 97th minute. Junior midfielder/forward Mary Dale leads LU in scoring with 10 points (four goals, two assists), while sophomore midfielder Amy Lomas is second on the team with nine points (four goals, one assist). Junior goalkeeper Emily Peick has tallied 21 saves in six starts for the Ramblers so far this season.
Scouting The Phoenix: UW-Green Bay enters the week with a 3-5-1 record on the year, including a 0-1 mark in the Horizon League. The Phoenix opened league play last week with a 2-1 home loss to defending league champion UW-Milwaukee on Sept. 23, which dropped their home record to 1-2 this season. Junior Stephanie Gross currently leads UWGB in scoring with eight points on three goals and two assists on a team-best 33 shots attempted. Sophomore Lotte Rasmussen (three goals) and senior Sarah Oligney are tied for second on the team with six points each. Sophomore Brooke Wikgren has recorded 45 saves in goal along with a 1.35 goals-against average for the Phoenix.
Series History: UWGB holds an 8-6-1 advantage in the all-time series with LU, including a 5-2 record in Green Bay. Both teams battled through 110 minutes at Loyola Soccer Park last season before ending with a 1-1 draw, which gave the Phoenix a 3-2-1 mark in the series since 2000.
Loyola in League Openers: The Ramblers have posted a 5-8 record lifetime in Horizon League opening matches, including a 2-4 mark away from home. Last season, LU posted a 6-0 victory over Youngstown State at Loyola Soccer Park.
Scouting The Mastadons: IPFW heads into this weekend sporting a 2-5-2 mark on the season, while posting a 2-1record against Horizon League teams this year. The Mastodons battled visiting Indiana State to a 1-1 tie at home on Sept. 23 before knocking off Cleveland State, 2-1, on the road Sept. 25. Sophomore Anika Apar is IPFW's leader in points (five), shots (27), and shots on goal (14). Senior Lindsay Williamson and sophomore Brittany Saylor are tied with Apar for top team honors in goals with two apiece. Sophomore goalie Shannon Lynn leads the Mastodons with 44 saves in 739 minutes of action.
Series History: Loyola leads the all-time series by a 3-0 margin over the Mastodons. The Ramblers captured the only meeting between the two schools in Ft. Wayne by a 4-1 score during their NCAA Tournament run in 2003.
