Box Score
CHICAGO - Sophomore Keum Sung Kim scored the first two goals of his collegiate career and assisted on another as Loyola knocked off DePaul, 3-1, tonight at Loyola Soccer Park. The Ramblers improve to 3-3-1 with the win while the Blue Demons fall to 2-5-2 with the loss.
Loyola opened the scoring after just four minutes through junior Javier Lopez. Kim started the play down the left wing and sent a cross into the box where Lopez rose above his mark and powered a header into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Kim took matters into his own hands and doubled Loyola's advantage in the 35th minute. Miscommunication on the DePaul backline led to a collision at the top of the box and Kim was there to poke the ball in the empty net for his first collegiate goal. However, DePaul was able to pull one back before intermission as a low cross from the right was met by a Loyola foot and inadvertantly steered into the net for an own goal. The Ramblers restored their two-goal advantage just over three minutes into the second half when Kim stepped up and bended a 25-yard free kick into the net for his second marker of the night. Staunch defending characterized the last 40 minutes as LU never let the visitors get back into the match.
Brad Sommer recorded four saves to earn the win in the net.
Loyola returns to action on Friday afternoon when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan.
