Detroit, Mich. - Junior Marquise Hanser led four Ramblers in double figures with 21 points but Detroit was able to open up a sizeable halftime lead and held on for an 88-73 win over Loyola tonight at Calihan Hall. The Ramblers drop to 0-13 (0-2 Horizon) while Detroit improves to 4-10 (1-2) with the win.
"It was nice to see a real inside presence on the offensive end tonight," said head coach Shannon Reidy. "However, we did not have good rotation on defense and that was one of the determining factors tonight."
Hanser and Jenna Real combined for 21 of LU's 31 first-half points but a 12-2 UDM run midway through the period helped the Titans turn a 19-16 lead into a 31-18 bulge with 9:17 left and the hosts took a 49-31 lead into intermission on the heels of a 53% shooting performance from the floor.
Loyola came out of the locker room determined to get the ball inside and did so with success, as Danielle Lonie celebrated her return to the court by scoring 11 of her 13 points after halftime.
Hanser struggled from the floor but managed to lead all scorers with her 21 points. Real added 17 points and seven rebounds while Lonie (13 points, six boards) and Emily Ponder (10 points, seven rebounds) also reached double figures.
More details to come.
