Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS - Loyola University Chicago remained undefeated in Horizon League play with a 1-0 overtime win at Butler on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Alex Jones took Loyola's first shot of the overtime period and scored his fifth career goal at the 95:18 mark to maintain the Ramblers unblemished Horizon League record at 3-0 and improved to 8-4 overall. Loyola's second 1-0 overtime win gives them the most wins in a season since 2000 and its second consecutive 3-0 start in Horizon League play. Butler is now 4-7-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Horizon League.

Loyola's offense was opportunistic throughout regulation then capitalized on a chance early in the overtime period. Sophomore Kevin Harrigan dribbled down the sideline and launched a service into the box about 15 yards out then Jones headed the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season which ties him for the team lead. Jones has a team-high .385 shooting percentage this season, converting five of 13 shots into goals. Harrigan was credited with his second assist of the season and is one of three Ramblers with multiple helpers.

The Ramblers continued to play stingy defense to earn their third consecutive Horizon League shutout in the first three games of League play, the first such occasion since Loyola joined the League in 2001. Loyola's last six wins have been shutouts and it now has seven total shutout victories this season, the most since 1996. The Ramblers have not allowed a goal in 275:18 of Horizon League play.

Butler attempted eight shots on goal against the Loyola defense but senior goal keeper Sean Bond responded by matching his season-high with eight saves for his seventh shutout victory. Bond is now 8-2 and lowered his GAA to 0.59. The Dallas, Texas native improved upon the 0.66 mark he entered the game with, which landed him in 18th-place in the NCAA.

Loyola hosts Detroit, the defending Horizon League champions, at 7 p.m. on Friday at Loyola Soccer Park.
