Post-Game Quotes
Loyola vs. UW-Green Bay
December 2, 2006
Loyola Head coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"This was a big win. I thought our guys moved the basketball and I thought our defense was improved. I liked, more than anything, our ball movement and unselfishness. We had nine turnovers and 16 assists and a lot of other ones that I call `close assists,' that are right there."
On Loyola's diverse offense
"We tried to find a few people who would get it going and get the ball moving. It's an important part of us playing well. We got four guys in double-figure points. That's balance. Should Blake (Schilb) take more shots? Sure. But it's also important for the rest of the guys to score to get balance on offense and get touches. It's like anything else. If we play better defense, we'll get good ball movement."
On defending Ryan Evanochko
"He's so good. He's such a threat off double screens and they have so many different looks. We were going through their film and their playlist was so long that we couldn't go through every one. We just had to go through general concepts. I thought our help defense helped us guard the ball screen because we had a lot of people over. But he's still a really good player. They would set the screen over the top with Lawrence but their shots didn't fall. I know those kids have made them. They've made those shots plenty of times against us before."
On Tracy Robinson's timely scoring
"He's been doing that. I'm probably guilty of not getting him enough time. Offensively, he's growing and maturing as a player from last year and the year before. When he moves the ball, he plays so much better offensively. When he tries to do to much, I don't think that's the best way for him to get into the game because he's a playmaker."
Loyola guard J.R. Blount
On Loyola's offensive performance "We were just executing. Coach (Whitesell) stressed how we need to run through our offense and just keep playing by moving the ball from side to side instead of trying to take the ball to the basket one-on-one. I think we did a good job of that. It just happened that a few of the shots came to me and couple went to Blake (Schilb). It was a good team win and a good team offensive performance.
Loyola guard Blake Schilb
On getting teammates involved in offense early
"Wisconsin-Green Bay was doubling early. Leon (Young) was open a couple of times early and I was just trying to get him the ball. You can never really tell how the opponent will defend you before you get out there and play. I was just trying to take whatever was coming to me. They were doubling early and my teammates were making good cuts so it was easy to get into the flow of the game."
