W. Lafayette, Ind. - Senior keeper Emily Peick made eight saves and a strong defensive effort helped keep Purdue off the scoreboard for the first 85 minutes, but Emily Forbes managed to find some room and scored in the 86th munute to give the hosts a 1-0 win over Loyola this afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind. The Ramblers slip to 3-2 while Purdue, which had been ranked in the national poll earlier this season, improves to 4-1-1 with the win.
Purdue was aggressive offensively throughout but Loyola's Sarah McPartlan forced PU keeper Lauren Mason into an eighth-minute save as the team began to settle in. The teams battled throughout the first 85 minutes with no score until Forbes knocked in her second goal of the season, capping a spurt which saw the Boilermakers step-up the pressure. Loyola desparately pushed forward in the final five minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
Purdue enjoyed a 27-6 edge in shots but just a 5-3 edge in corner kicks as the Ramblers were able to carve out some opportunities.
Loyola returns to action this Friday against another Big Ten foe, as Iowa makes the trip to Rogers Park. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and is the opener of a Loyola soccer doubleheader, with the Rambler men's team taking on Buffalo in the nightcap.
