Sophomore Michael Ferguson notched the game-winning goal at the 72-minute mark on Sunday afternoon for the Loyola men's soccer team lifting the Ramblers over Horizon League foe Butler, 1-0. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 7-3-3 overall and 3-0-2 in Horizon League action, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6-4 overall and 1-2-2 in League play.
After 72-minutes of scoreless action, Ferguson stepped up for the Ramblers and recorded his League-high 12th goal of the season, giving Loyola a 1-0 edge on the Bulldogs. The Overland Park, Kan., native grabbed a pass from sophomore Alex Jones and drove it into the backstop for his fourth goal of the weekend. With 12 goals scored, he is now tied for third on Loyola's all-time list for goals scored in a season.
Also etching himself into the Loyola record books, was junior goalkeeper Brian Byrne, with his seventh shutout of the season. The Arlington Heights, Ill., native is now tied for second on Loyola's all-time list. Byrne tallied five saves on the evening en route to the shutout victory.
The Ramblers travel to Milwaukee on Thursday, October 18 when they go head-to-head with the Panthers. The match is slated for 7:00 pm.
