Loyola vs. Detroit
Post-Game Quotes
February 7, 2007

Loyola head coach Jim Whitesell

Opening Statement
"Detroit is a really good team and I'm proud of our guys because they played with good effort. We really got some nice offensive play early in the game. We made the extra pass for a while and I liked our energy defensively. Brandon Cotton and Ryvon Covile are outstanding players. We beat a good team tonight. Anytime you play Detroit, you better be ready to play. We are really pleased with the win."

On J.R. Blount
"My perspective is that J.R. is the type of player that will get going eventually. I think he's pretty tough that way. He was cooking at Cleveland State. I think the other thing is, between Blount and Schilb, they're making that extra pass to one another. That helped us get two three-pointers in the first half. The other thing is now all of a sudden we're shooting the ball better, we're a lot harder to guard when we're making that extra pass and we're not trying to keep the ball on one side. I liked that we had a lot of flow on offense. If we make our free throws, I think we have a chance to open the game up but we just struggled from the line. The free throw line was the only area offensively that we struggled."

On the team's complete all-around play

"We were complete. I think that's a good way to describe how we played tonight. Blake made plays lots of times, like that pass to (Brandon) Woods for the lay-up inside. When they played zone, we'd make that extra pass. We can shoot the three. We've got guys that can make them."

On his twenty-point game

"I was just making shots. Like Coach Whitesell talked about, we were making the extra pass and today I was able to knock a few shots down. Tonight's success was really more about the team. Majak (Kou) had four assists and Blake (Schilb) had seven. We were making the extra pass."

On involving his teammates

"I've seen double teams for the last few years. If my teammates are open, I'm going to hit them. I have trust in my teammates. J.R. (Blount) has been shooting the ball well, especially in the last two games. If he's open, I'm going to swing the ball to him. Like they said, it's a team game. You're not going to win it all by yourself."

On his all-around game

"Sometimes your teammates just don't finish and you don't get the assist but that doesn't matter, I just continued to try to hit the glass and take the shot when I was open. My teammates did a good job of getting me the ball and into positions where I can score."
