Joe Guntli's 14 kills lead the Ramblers to a 3-0 sweep of Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 14 Loyola men's volleyball program improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-19, 30-18) victory over MIVA foe Quincy (2-2, 0-2 MIVA). The Ramblers hit .440 as a team en route to their second consecutive sweep of the season.

The Ramblers fell behind early in game one, but quickly regained momentum tying the game at 10-10 after a Hawks attack error and later took their first lead of the game (13-12) on a kill by junior outside hitter Joe Guntli. Loyola tallied six straight points to break the game open and take a 17-12 lead on three kills by junior middle blocker Nick Lamoureux. The Ramblers eventually went on to claim game one by a score of 30-25.

Game two began much like the first. The Hawks held a 5-3 lead before Loyola scored five consecutive points. Sophomore outside hitter Kris Berzins recorded a trio of kills to give the Ramblers a 20-15 advantage. Three consecutive kills by Guntli gave the Ramblers a 2-0 edge on the Hawks as they headed into the locker room.

Loyola jumped out in front quickly in game three on a kill and service ace by Guntli. The Ramblers never relinquished their lead as they hit a match-high .526 as a team with 12 kills and just two attack errors in game three alone.

Guntli led the Ramblers with a match-high 14 kills, two service aces and 16.0 points while hitting .550. Berzins chipped in 11 kills, six digs, two aces and hit .500.

The Ramblers return to Alumni Gym for a four-game homestand beginning Saturday, January 19 at 4 p.m. when they take on Lees-McRae in a non-conference match-up.
