Loyola drops 1-0 decision to No. 6 Northwestern

Oct. 28, 2008

Box Score

CHICAGO - The Loyola men's soccer team held No. 6 Northwestern (12-1-2) scoreless until late in the second half, but the Wildcats eventually broke through for the only goal of the match, securing a 1-0 victory on a cold Tuesday night at Loyola Soccer Park.

Loyola (8-5-2) was unable to produce any offense for the fourth straight game and produced just one shot on goal midway through the second period from junior Malcolm DeBaun. Senior Keum Sung Kim notched four shots and junior Eric Gehrig and DeBaun recorded two each for the Ramblers.

Northwestern controlled possession for much of the match and finally jumped on the board in the 77th minute with a goal by senior Brian Usinger off an assist from redshirt senior Drew Ratner. Several players crowded the box, making conditions difficult for senior goalkeeper Brian Byrne, who was unable to stop the Wildcat attack. Byrne recorded four saves in 90 minutes in goal.

Loyola returns to Horizon League action Oct. 31 when it travels to Green Bay for a match beginning at 7 p.m.
