Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 To Drake

Sept. 12, 2008

Box Score

CHICAGO - The men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season tonight, falling 2-0 to Drake at Loyola Soccer Park. Loyola falls to 3-1-1, while the Bulldogs improve to 5-0-0 and in the process pick up their fifth straight shutout.

Playing in a steady rain that intensified as the night went on, the Ramblers fell behind early, with Drake junior Kevin Shrout sinking the game's first goal off an assist from senior Ryan Moylan at the 22:06 mark. The Bulldogs took that 1-0 lead into the break, with Loyola unable to convert on any of its seven shots in the first half.

Loyola controlled possession for most of the second half, outshooting Drake 6-3, but both defenses held strong, until Drake would break through once more to seal the outcome at the 83:53 mark, as freshman Hunter Kennedy set up junior Garrett Webb who knocked in a header to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

Loyola outshot Drake 13-11 for the game, led by junior Alex Jones with two shots and one on goal and sophomore Will Martin with his lone shot coming on goal. Senior goalkeeper Brian Byrne recorded one save in the match.

The Ramblers are back in action on Sept. 21 when they host SIU-Edwardsville at Loyola Soccer Park at 3 p.m.
