DENVER - Solid offensive efforts from Scott Waggoner, Keum Sung Kim and Michael Ferguson helped lead Loyola (2-0-1) over host Denver (0-3-0) 3-2 Friday night at Pioneer Field.
Waggoner came off the bench and notched the game's first goal of the night and the first of his collegiate career, off an assist from Eric Gehrig with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. Not long after the break, the Pioneers countered with a goal at 61:47 to even the score at one.
Both team's defensive efforts held strong until Kim connected with Willie Koss to give the advantage back to the Ramblers. With just under nine minutes to play, Ferguson sunk the eventual game-winning goal off a penalty kick. Denver scored again less than a minute later, but it would prove to be too little too late, as Loyola held on for the 3-2 victory.
Ferguson led the Ramblers with four shots, while Kim added three and goalkeeper Brian Byrne recorded one save on the night. Dating back to last season, Loyola is 3-0-2 in its last five road matches.
The Ramblers, who are ranked No. 24 in the Soccer America Top 25 poll and No. 30 in the College Soccer News Top 30 poll, continue their trip out west, when they face Air Force on Sunday at 2 p.m.
