CHICAGO - Casey Berrier scored in the 30th minute to lead the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team past Butler, 1-0, on Sunday (Oct. 24). Berrier, one of the team's eight graduating seniors, scored her first goal of the season in the seniors' final regular season match at Loyola Soccer Park.

"It was fantastic to see one of the seniors step up today," said Loyola head coach Frank Mateus. "It was a huge win for the team, but it was also a special day for the senior class as well."

Berrier headed the lone goal of the match past Butler goalkeeper Jessica off of a well-placed cross from junior Maggie Doe from the left side of the goal area. The single score would stand up for the Ramblers, as the staunch Loyola defense and sophomore goalkeeper Katie Groesch kept the Bulldogs out of the scoring column.

Berrier was not the only senior to contribute to the Ramblers' victory, as all eight classmates saw playing time. Cynthia Morote-Ariza, Jackie Vera, Ashley Morawski, Becca Hughey and Selina Hunt combined for seven of the Loyola's 15 shots, while Berrier, Julie Colhoff and Allison Hammond provided a strong defensive effort to keep the Ramblers in front.

The win clinches home field for Loyola in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Tournament, which will be played next Sunday (Nov. 1) at Loyola Soccer Park.

"The team really wanted the opportunity to come back home and play," said Mateus. "It's good news that when we really need to win games, we can get it done."

Loyola rounds out its regular season schedule this Wednesday (Oct. 28) against Purdue. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT.
