Loyola vs. Canisius
Nov. 17, 2009

Loyola senior forward Andy Polka
On his physical play after last season's injury
"You get banged up and things like that, it's not a problem. You just have to hope that for anybody that plays basketball that they don't have serious injuries. I feel better and more comfortable on the court now that we have a couple of games under us, but I don't know if I'll ever feel the same as I did before the injury, just because of the way it happened. It was such a freak accident, coming down on someone's foot and all of a sudden I'm out for a year and have to have surgery. Some people have said it takes a full year to recover."

Loyola junior guard Geoff McCammon
On Loyola's strong offensive output tonight after struggling at Kansas State
"We told each other to stay confident and tried to lift each other up. Tonight we took good shots and made most of them."

Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"One thing I liked about our guys was that I thought Geoff McCammon gave us good starts to both halves with his shooting ability and I thought Courtney Stanley really played a good floor game. (Canisius guard Frank) Turner is a really good player and we had to fight him every second just to keep him under control. You could see that (Canisius) was a team that has some awfully good experience with three starters back. They're very quick, very athletic and really push the envelope. I'm happy with the way our guys played. We started each half and then settled down and played. We have plenty of things to work on, but I'm proud of the way our guys played."

On production off the bench
"You really just look at it by the game. A good example is with McCammon. The argument is `why didn't you play him more?' We saw a lot of press so we put a ball-handling unit out there when we had that lead. I thought Geoff really had a lot of production out there. I also thought (Aric) Van Weelden, (Walt) Gibler and Marcus Thomas really gave us good play off the bench. When our bench plays like that, we're a much deeper team. All three of those guys were starters last year, so they're used to playing a lot of minutes. It was very helpful that those guys came in and gave us quality minutes."

On the team shooting well after last weekend's loss to Kansas State
"It was good to shoot the ball well, because we had been shooting the ball pretty well in practice. I really liked the way we came back and practiced on Sunday and Monday. I thought the guys handled a bit of adversity. It's early in the season and we want to play well at home. We want our fan base to get excited about us and see this team grow. When you're at home, you have a great opportunity."
