Total Team Effort Leads Loyola Past Milwaukee, 69-64

Dec. 5, 2009

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Geoff McCammon led three players that scored in double figures as Loyola University Chicago (5-2, 1-1 Horizon) picked up a 69-64 victory over host Milwaukee (6-3, 1-1 Horizon) tonight at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Ramblers improve to 2-2 on the road this season with the win.

Loyola got off to a quick start, hitting three three-pointers en route to an early 18-8 lead. Milwaukee sliced the lead down to six (27-21) but a basket by Ben Averkamp and a three from Courtney Stanley stretched the Ramblers' advantage back to double digits (32-21) and LU took a 36-26 lead into halftime.

The host Panthers staged a comeback in the second half and took a 47-46 lead, their first since a 6-5 edge, on Lonnie Boga's three-pointer with 10:49 left in the contest. That lead would be short lived though as McCammon answered with a trey of his own to give Loyola a 49-47 lead it would never relinquish and start a 10-0 run.

Milwaukee got within 61-57, before Terrance Hill's conventional three-point play gave the Ramblers a 64-57 cushion as they held on to become the first team to win a Horizon League road game this season.

In addition to McCammon's 18 points, Stanley chipped in a career-high 13 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Hill contributed 11 points and six boards, while Andy Polka (8 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists) and Averkamp (8 points, 5 rebounds) turned in solid efforts.

Ricky Franklin scored 17 points to lead Milwaukee, which was held to 37 percent shooting on the night.

Loyola takes the week off for final exams before returning home to host San Francisco Saturday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m.
