CHICAGO - Valparaiso (12-10, 7-5 Horizon) used a 17-2 first-half run to take control and never looked back, knocking off Loyola (6-15, 1-10), 85-60, tonight at the Gentile Center. Brittany Boeke scored 18 points - two shy of her career high - to lead the Ramblers.
Three-pointers from Keisha Collins and Jessica Hylton got the Ramblers off to a good start and a Boeke hoop later tied the game at 8-all. From that point, Valpo caught fire, particularly from the arc, knocking down two triples in the decisive run that gave the Crusaders a 25-10 lead midway through the half. Five more points from Boeke helped Loyola stay within striking distance but three Aimee Litka threes highlighted a 16-2 spurt that, effectively, put the game out of reach.
The Crusaders shot 61% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and knocked down 11 three-pointers in the period.
Loyola got solid contributions from three freshmen in the second half, as they outscored Valpo 37-33. Lindsey Sebetic poured in a season-best nine points, Ellen Ayoub finished with seven and Katie Kortekamp knocked down a pair of treys for six points.
Boeke, who scored 20 points last Saturday at UIC, hit 8 of 14 from the floor for her 18 points.
Loyola wraps up its two-game home weekend with a 2 p.m. game against Butler on Saturday afternoon.
