VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team played 110 minutes against Valparaiso on Sunday (Sept. 27), but it was not enough to decide a winner, as the teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Senior Alex Jones scored the Ramblers' lone goal of the afternoon in the 18th minute, sending a header off of a well-placed cross by senior Michael Ferguson to the back of the net for the score. The Ramblers got the majority of the scoring chances in the first half, holding the Crusaders to two shots.
The second half provided more physical, defensive play from both teams. Five total cautions were given out in the frame, including a red card to Loyola's Jordan Lewis in the 52nd minute, forcing the Ramblers to play a man down for the remainder of the match.
Valparaiso got on the board 12 minutes later when Zack Stivers buried a shot from 10 yards out into the left side of the net to tie the match at one. Two back-and-forth overtime periods ensued before the final buzzer sounded to signal a draw.
The Ramblers return home to Loyola Soccer Park this Friday (Oct. 2) to take on Butler at 7 p.m. CT.
