Final Stats

Indianapolis, IN- Scott Waggoner's second half goal brought Loyola University Chicago back into contention late in the contest against nationally-ranked #7 Butler on Sunday afternoon. However, the Bulldogs found two earlier scores, one in each half, to down Loyola 2-1 at the Butler Bowl in Indianapolis, Indiana.

With two regular season matches left this fall, Loyola is now 3-9-2 overall. After opening conference play 3-0-1, the Ramblers have dropped its last two Horizon League matches. Butler improves to 13-0-1 this season, sitting atop of the league standings at 6-0-0. The Bulldogs are now 13-7-3 all-time against the Ramblers.

Although the Maroon and Gold left Sunday's game without a victory, the squad matched the conference's top team shot-for-shot, attempting five shots to Butler's three in the final frame. Loyola finished the game with nine total attempts.

Butler picked up goals from Austin Oldham (21') and Kyle Pateros (52'), moving the home team outfront 2-0 with more than 40 minutes of soccer left to play.

Down a pair, the Ramblers, led by Waggoner, didn't fold up shop. Instead, the junior made the contest 2-1 in the 70th minute after receiving a double-pass from Willie Koss and Eric Nock, then fired a shot from six-yards out into the back of the Bulldog net.

Waggoner's first goal of the season and fourth of his career ignited a spark in his teammates, as Loyola moved up and down the field with a sense of urgency late in the contest.

Nock attempted two shots in the final two minutes, including a header with just seconds left, but Butler goalkeeper Fabian Knopfler was there to make the save and secure the win.

The men's soccer team will now head to Green Bay, Wisconsin, on October 30 to meet the Phoenix at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
