Green Bay, Wis. - Eric Marofske's first collegiate goal gave Loyola a second-half lead but host Green Bay tied it late in regulation and converted a penalty kick in overtime to steal a 2-1 (OT) win over the Ramblers tonight at Santaga Stadium in Green Bay, Wis. Loyola drops to 3-10-2 (3-3-1 Horizon) while the Phoenix improve to 11-4-1 (5-2) with its seventh consecutive win.
Loyola was content to soak up Green Bay's pressure in the opening 45 minutes with Willie Koss firing Loyola's only shot of the opening period high of the net in the 29th minute. Despite being outshot 9-1 in the first 45 minutes, the teams went to halftime scoreless.
After Chris Mills saw an effort turned away for a corner kick, the Ramblers had the ball in the net. Will Martin floated a cross to Marofske, who made no mistake to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute. Green Bay was struggling to find the target and Loyola was less than 90 seconds away from victory when the Phoenix pulled even. David Bernhardsson's cross found Tony Walls in the box and his shot found the back of the net in the 89th minute to force overtime.
Less than three minutes into the extra session, Green Bay found the winner. A foul in the box gave the Phoenix a chance from the penalty spot and Walls stepped up to bury the winner.
Loyola wraps up its regular season a week from tonight (Nov. 6) when it travels to UIC for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
