Postgame Quotes
Loyola 73, Eastern Illinois 62
November 18, 2010
Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"I'm really happy with the win. Here's what happens a lot of time when you get a good lead. You start out sharp and then you get punched back, and lose a little bit of momentum.......It's basketball, every night is different. That's one good thing our guys did, not take anything for granted. I give Eastern Illinois a lot of credit. They hung around, messed with us, and kept changing some things. And not everything fell for us like it did in the first 15 minutes."
On the team's defensive effort
"I think we have done a pretty good job overall on the defensive end. It has to be an area where we have to be very consistent. We have seven guys that have gotten used to playing a lot. I have to get eight or nine, or even ten. I have to start getting those other guys in there more. Defensively, I thought we paid attention to detail. We have a lot to work on. We'll have a really tough one on Saturday (at Western Michigan)."
"We really hoped to do that in the last four minutes of the first half (deliver the last punch)."
"Getting to the free throw line and being in the bonus early in the second half really helped us. In their zone, we didn't get in and out. And then we didn't shoot the ball very good."
Loyola junior forward Walt Gibler
On a tough night shooting the ball but still getting to the foul line often
"I feel like you have to take what the defense gives you. Sometimes it'll be making shots. Sometimes it'll be taking a shot around the top of the key or getting to the free throw line. Just take what the defense gives you."
Loyola junior guard/forward Jordan Hicks
On guarding Eastern Illinois' Tyler Laser
"Laser is a really good player. He never stopped moving. In practice, they had us on a guy running going through screens the whole time and that prepared us. He's a good player, he's going to knock down his shots. We played tough and came out with the win."
