Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening Statement
"That was a fun game for the fans to watch and tough one to lose. You have to give Butler a lot of credit. I think they really executed down the stretch. They made some timely threes. I thought our guys kept punching back. We just couldn't get the lead. That was one of the things that was frustrating. We kept hanging around to have a chance. The one thing I admire about Butler is they are coming off a tough loss and they are game ready. That's one thing you have to do at this level. You take a hit and move on. We have to come back and play real well on Saturday against a good Valpo team."

On Loyola's inside-out game
"Good teams try to establish some inside game and get some transition, and that's usually where our threes would come. We shot the three well but I think part of that was they guarded us up. In the first half, we had a tough time moving the ball and stayed on one side of the floor. In the second half, in the first four minutes I thought the ball was moving much better. Against Butler that's what you're usually going to have to do to try and get back into the game. It's not going to be a 10-0 run. You're going to try and have to chip away at that thing."

On the last free throws
"We wanted to make the first one and miss the second. We definitely wanted to get a tip out of that. Make the first one then you bull rush the second one, and not worry about getting the three. We were hoping to tip it out. I was a little surprised it went in. I know before Courtney (Stanley) said to the guys he was looking to miss the second one."

Loyola senior forward Andy Polka
On this year's game feeling like last year's game
"It felt like it a little bit. It had a different feel without (Gordon) Hayward out there. It's a little different game with Howard shooting threes. Butler is a good team. They kept fighting and fighting and won in the end. We're going to bounce back on Saturday."

Loyola sophomore forward Ben Averkamp
On how to defend Matt Howard and Khyle Marshall
"For Howard, it's trying to eliminate the first pass. And make them run their offense again and maybe they won't look at him the second time. With Marshall, he attacks with the left and is athletic."
