Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell

Opening Statement
"We liked the way Gabe (Kindred) played against Valparaiso, and I like his energy. We played well when he was in there. I thought Courtney (Stanley) played well tonight. We've had a couple of guys waiting to get their opportunity to play, like (Shaun)Adams, and (Chim) Kadima. These guys have been good citizens on the bench. They got an opportunity to play and did some good things for us."

On what was said during halftime
"Take care of the ball. We weren't getting back and they were exposing us in transition. We were getting overextended in our help. In the first four minutes, we outscored them 9-0 and that really helped us settle down and play. Kadima really helped us and gave us a nice lift there and played solid. I thought when Adams came in he gave us a nice lift."

On Saturday's game versus Kansas State
"At 8 and 2 I'm happy with that. We would have loved a better record in the league, but we can't un-ring the bell, it's done. You have to bounce back after not playing well. And we played two really good teams last week and we will play an outstanding one on Saturday who could conceivably be number one in the country when they walk into the door. That's how good they are. Our guys know that and respect them. We know we're going to have to play lights out. We're going to need a big crowd here. We're bringing in a Final Four potential team and maybe a National Champion to our floor. So we need a great crowd here. I know Kansas State is bringing a lot of people here already. We need a big house."

Loyola freshman guard Gabe Kindred

On starting his first game
"I was definitely excited. I had some jitters, but I was happy to get an opportunity to come in and help my team win. Like coach said, I think I played well in the Valpo game. I could come in and bring energy and pick us up when we need that. Coach put the ball in my hands. I was just trying to do whatever to win. If I have to come off the bench or if I get to start, I just want to win. We have a lot of team-oriented guys. I think of myself as a team-oriented person. Coach had confidence in me, so I knew I could have confidence in myself to get the job done."
