Post-Game Quotes
Loyola 80, UIC 63
February 13, 2010

Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"I'm really happy with the win. Obviously the score opened up a little bit in the end. We had a really good week of practice after coming back from Butler and after kind of breaking our heart last Saturday against Cleveland State in a game that we just felt like, `what else do we need to do to get a win?' We just had to make some plays. That's what our answer was to our guys. Tonight, I thought our guys made some plays, made free throws at the end, took care of the ball and got some stops that were really important. I'm very happy."

On the team's guard play
"Tonight, I thought Courtney (Stanley) was really a little too amped up early. I thought that putting Ryan (Sterling) in there about six minutes into it and him just running our offense, he did a good job."

On the team's post play
"We got into the bad habit of going up one-handed and UIC is too quick and too athletic. I thought (Ben) Averkamp set the tone. It's kind of weird that we didn't get Averkamp back in there because I thought he played really well. But then (Walt) Gibler comes in and he scores. When we play well, one thing that helps us is that you're going to have to pull one of our bigs for a negative play. (Andy) Polka is always going to be good defensively, but offensively, he needs to go be aggressive. That's one thing he did a good job at. Walt is always looking to shoot, which is good for us. We need a guy down there who is going to do that. I was happy to see all three of those guys give us a solid night."

Loyola Junior Guard Geoff McCammon
On the Loyola-UIC rivalry
"UIC is a crosstown rival. We're both in Chicago. Since my freshman season, we've lost to them five times. This year, I said I wanted to beat these guys. I hadn't beaten them yet. Whenever you play your rival team, it brings out the best in everyone, I think. We came out with a little fire."

Loyola Junior Guard Terrance Hill
On defending Robo Kreps
"Last time at their house, he had 20 points. He made it real tough on me all night coming off screens. Coach Whitesell and I put an emphasis on me just trailing and never trying to shoot the gap. If I try to shoot the gap, he could get open shots. I tried to shoot the gap on one of them tonight and he hit a three. He's a gamer."
